Today is Friday, the thirtieth of October, the Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost. In the Gospel the Lord sends out seventy disciples two by two, like lambs among wolves, with no purse and no sandals. They enter a house and say, "Peace be to this house." What matters most in our lives is not what we carry with us, but the peace we bring across a stranger's threshold. Today we remember Saint Stephen Milutin, King of Serbia. He was a man of power, yet his heart was drawn to the churches, and the churches he built still stand in Serbia today. He died at Gračanica in the year 1321, and his people kept his memory as that of a quiet intercessor. Even a ruler can have a heart that remembers God more than it remembers the crown. Dear friends, may this day be a day of good peace. May there be warmth in your homes and stillness in your hearts. I bless you, and may the Lord keep you.
