Father Bohdan

In today's Gospel the Lord says that a good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good, and an evil man out of evil brings forth evil. And He also reminds us that a house built on rock will stand against the flood, while one built without a foundation will collapse. These words are not about outward deeds, but about what is within us, about what we live by each day. Saint Fortunata, virgin and martyr, lived in Caesarea in Palestine and suffered around the year 303. She was very young, yet her heart was already that good treasure from which good things came forth — faithfulness to Christ even unto death. We know little about her life, but her very feat speaks to the fact that holiness does not depend on age or circumstances, but only on the love a person keeps in the depths of the soul. Today I wish for you that your heart may be that rock on which everything else is built. May the Lord strengthen you in good deeds and give you quiet joy, and may God's blessing remain with you and with your loved ones.
